Hibernian sack Gray amid winless run
Hibernian have sacked head coach David Gray with the club sitting ninth in the Scottish Premiership following a difficult start to the season.
Hibernian have parted company with head coach David Gray after a poor run of results left the club ninth in the Scottish Premiership.
The decision follows a 1-0 home defeat to Kilmarnock, which was Hibs' fourth league defeat in six matches this season.
Hibernian confirm Gray departure
The club confirmed Gray's departure on Wednesday, with executive chairman Ian Gordon explaining that the decision was made because of a recent decline in results and performances.
Gray had been appointed permanent head coach in June 2024 after previously serving several spells in interim charge.
He led Hibernian to a third-place finish in the 2024/25 season and a fifth-place finish last season.
Difficult start to the new season
Hibernian have struggled for consistency at the start of the current campaign.
The Easter Road side have lost four of their opening six Scottish Premiership matches and are currently two points above the bottom of the table.
Their defeat against Kilmarnock also extended their run to six consecutive home league defeats, equalling a club record last seen in 1920.
Despite their league struggles, Hibernian have progressed to the League Cup semi-finals. Their European campaign ended after defeat to Gent in the Conference League play-offs.
John Potter takes interim charge
Coach John Potter will take temporary charge of the first team.
His first match in charge will be against Aberdeen, while Hibernian begin their search for a new permanent head coach.
Gray remains a significant figure in Hibernian's history after scoring the winning goal against Rangers in the 2016 Scottish Cup final, ending the club's 114-year wait to win the competition.
